Job Description

Assists the administration staff in overseeing and assisting all staff in all functions to ensure the provision of quality general and psychiatric care to patients suffering from substance abuse or psychiatric disorders. Oversee the day to day activities of staff in all CCD and nursing area and assists the department managers with scheduling, education and discipline of staff when needed. Involved in direct patient care, education and training, and participation in departmental and hospitals meetings as assigned. Reviews documentation and works with staff to ensure that documentation is timely, accurate and complete. The House Supervisor may also serve as a working RN and routinely personally executes nursing care duties to ensure quality patient care and proper execution and documentation of the treatment plan.

Qualifications

License: Current unencumbered license to practice by the State Board of Nursing, valid driver’s license preferred.

Additional Requirements: CPR certification and Handle with Care within 30 days. Must be at least 21 years of age. May be required to work flexible hours and overtime.

Job Responsibilities

Manages scheduling and staffing of nursing department. Ensures appropriate coverage of shifts. Minimizes use of agency staff and overtime. Approves or denies appropriately the use of time off by staff.

Monitors staff attendance, keeping accurate records of tardiness, absences, and staff leaving early or staying late. Assists DON in the execution of payroll.

Provides back up nursing and/or intake assistance for patients. Assists patients with their requests and needs. Provides patients with information. Acts as patient advocate.

Oversees the entire hospital operation during the time which administration is not present. Oversees performance, maintains schedules, and completes education and coaching when necessary.

Completes evaluations and delivers disciplines within nursing department in a professional and timely manner.

Assists DON in conducting department meetings on a routine manner. Ensures appropriate documentation in completed on staff attendance. Creates accurate minutes of meetings.

Assists in the intake department as necessary.

Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of regulatory standards including TJC, Medicaid, state and federal laws.

Performs conflict resolution and mediation with staff. Appropriately seeks assistance from the DON, Intake manager, and HR when necessary.

Completes investigations in a thorough and timely manner, ensuring information collected is accurate. Provides information to the appropriate designee to ensure completion of necessary reporting or staff follow up.

Displays a thorough nursing knowledge including assessments, treatment planning, discharge and admission procedures, medication distribution and medical care. Personally delivers RN patient care as needed.

Delivery of quality nursing care to ensure goals of the treatment plan are properly executed following hospital policies and procedures and demonstrated nursing competencies.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SPECIAL DEMANDS
• Ability to sit and stand (one-third of the shift) and walk (two-thirds of the shift).
• Ability to reach above, or below waist height, kneel, bend, stoop, turn, and twist (occasionally to frequently).
• Visual ability to read charts, treatment plans, and typewritten materials.
• Hearing ability to detect noise on the unit and have the ability to discern odors.
• Ability to frequently push/pull wheeled carts up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to frequently lift and carry 10 lbs.; occasionally 20-50 lbs.
• Ability to spend 95% of the work day inside in temperatures varying from 60-90 degrees F., where noise levels range from low to high and the ability to spend 5% of the work day outside in temperatures varying from 30-110 degrees F.
• Ability to frequently handle hazardous/infectious waste.
• Ability to work at a rapid pace and perform a variety of repetitive duties.
• Ability to respond to exposure to blood and body fluids.
