The St. James Department of Safety & Rescue is accepting applications for an Emergency Medical Technician to serve as dual role lifeguard and emergency medical technician at its Springfield, VA location.

The Department of Safety & Rescue (DSR) is dedicated to ensuring safety and protecting the lives of The St. James members, program participants and guests. We apply rescue readiness, ownership and integrity to a variety of hazard prevention and response assignments, including general assistance, activity surveillance, minor and more complex incidents. STJ DSR is a growing department of Lifeguards, Aquatics Operators, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Safety Professionals that offer exceptional learning and promotional opportunities. We are dedicated to the development of a customer-service focused, recognizable workforce to meet the needs of a dynamic sports and wellness organization.

Duties include:
• Respond to various incidents and emergencies across the 450,000 sq. ft. Sports & Wellness complex
• Provide patient assessments and emergency care, such as bandaging wounds and/or cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Provide emergency medical coverage during sports events, games, and tournaments
• Transfer patients to municipal emergency medical or emergency medical transports services
• Document incidents/accidents, including actions taken and/or care provided
• Work as Lifeguard, including surveillance of activities in and around Pool and Water Park
• Maintain physical fitness at “response ready” levels
• Participate in on-going skills training and mandatory in-service events
• Work early morning, evening, weekend and holiday hours as necessary

Selection Process Prerequisites:

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required
• Active First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), or Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (NREMT-B) required
• Active CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer required
• Active Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications preferred
• Three (3) months patient care experience preferred
• Six (6) months indoor, year-round aquatics center experience preferred
