Your challenge

The Bear Island Mill is the newest addition to the Cascades Containerboard Packaging lineup. This state-of-the-art facility will offer one of the lightest high end, 100% recycled linerboard and medium products on the market. The mill is under construction and start-up is scheduled in Q1 2023.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor:

Before the Startup:

In partnership with the maintenance & the production team, the Shutdown Coordinator will be responsible for the planning of all shutdowns of the mil to include meeting coordination, contractor coordination & orientation, pre- planning, scheduling, execution, and post shutdown activities (de-brief and evaluation of metrics). Additionally, the Shutdown Coordinator will assist the Maintenance and Operations team in execution and scheduling long term reliability projects/maintenance items.

Individual responsibilities
• The Shutdown Coordinator coordinates and manages the scheduled shutdowns of the paper machine (each area) about every six weeks and Mill shutdown about every 12 months.
• Provide a detailed schedule of shutdown activities to include critical path items and responsible executing parties.
• Participate in Maintenance and Operation daily/Weekly meeting to foresee the needs of items that will be included in shutdowns and items that can be addressed during unforeseen downtime.
• Lead Pre-Shutdown planning meetings to define prioritization of all work and identification of participating contractors.
• Engaging in daily approval meeting to understand priority of work.
• Work with the maintenance planners, supervisors, and maintenance leads to assign resources for the next shutdown to include updates and tracking on required parts and kitting of critical work items.
• Coordinate all tasks with the safety coordinator regarding performing jobs in a safe manner as of reviewing LOTO, working at height, confined spaces, etc.
• Review and archive finish work order and perform analysis on work orders that have not been performed according to the established KPIs.
• Identify opportunities and optimize shutdown activities for continuous improvement

Experiences and strengths
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/electrical engineering or a related field- Experience can be substituted.
• Desire to generously share knowledge for the benefit of partners and colleagues.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong organization skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience in a paper mill environment is strongly preferred.
• Experience working with SAP strongly preferred.
