MONO COUNTY SCHOOL NURSE
Definition:
The person in this position provides school nursing services to schools and programs of assignment, and coordinates school health and nursing services through the County Office. This person is directly responsible to the County Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
Supervision Exercised and Received:
An employee in this classification receives supervision from the County Superintendent or designee within a broad framework of policies and procedures.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
• Works within the county office acting as a liaison between school and public agencies, between state and local school districts in interpretation of laws and regulations relating to the health of physically and mentally exceptional children as well as other school age children in general. (Implementation of immunization, vision and hearing program.)
• Provides referral and follow-up procedures when a physical defect is noted.
• Work with the family physician, dentist and health agencies in obtaining examinations for children referred by teachers and other school personnel for County Office of Education programs.
• Coordinates county-wide health services programs.
• Works with other public and private health agencies, and represents the county schools office on health committees in contributing to community health and welfare.
• Provides consultant and coordinates services to a county-wide screening program for visual and aural screening.
• Obtains medical reports and assists the parents and teachers in the adjustment of a handicapped child in Mono County Office of Education programs.
• Assists in establishing first aid procedures and selecting first aid supplies for the Mono County Office of Education.
• Plans and implements pre-school enrollment programs to determine health needs of beginning students.
• Serves as a member of the admissions and dismissal committee for the Mono County Office of Education programs.

Minimum Qualifications:
• B.S. degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university, preferably with specialization in nursing, health education, and child development.
• Valid Registered Nurse License, California Credential, Audiometrist Certificate, and Public Health Nurse Certificate.
Desired Qualifications:
• One year of successful school nursing experience and Public Health nursing experience
• Ability to meet the health needs of the handicapped
• Demonstrated ability in working effectively with all segments of the profession, other agencies, and the community
• In depth knowledge, skills and competence in the field of health education
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements:
Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform assigned duties, including lifting fifty-five (55) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty-five (55) pounds with assistance. Ability to work at a desk; ability to stand for extended periods of time; ability to see for purposes of reading rules and policies and other printed matter; ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels; ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand; ability to operate office equipment; ability to bend and twist; ability to reach in all directions.
Other Requirements:
• Possession of valid driver's license
• TB testing
• Fingerprint background check
• Compliance with the MCOE dress code and other policies
Probationary Period: One Year
Salary Range: Placement on appropriate step and column of Certificated Salary Schedule.
Additional $2,000 for Masters
