Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to provide strategic & directional insights and recommendations with power to influence the commercial business teams to maximize the commercial & opportunity of their business. This includes: Identify commercial areas of interest and assess their potential while adopting best industry practice in market research insight, intelligence & Geomarketing together with implementing an operational feedback loop to ensure that opportunities highlighted are fully exploited with CAPEX and OPEX optimization. Challenging and supporting commercial teams and cross functions in executing identified key opportunities and implementing change.

Key Accountabilities And Decision Ownership
• Market research and Business Intelligence Insights responsibilities:
• The position will be responsible for leading a market research & analytical insights team, which will influence business strategy with the marketing, Consumer & Enterprise teams, Customer care, Sales and Distribution. The team will investigate, gather and assimilate relevant data into concise, insightful information with practical interpretation & recommendations. The insights revealing that certain behavior is practiced will be researched and developed to explain reasons “why” certain actions/behavior are evident. The role will be proactive in identifying research opportunities, resulting recommendations, action and where feasible impact from the insights
• Ensure that the source and quality of the data is highly reputable and that the latest proven methodologies & techniques are employed. Develop a strategy and network to maximize insight benefit from “Big Data”, industry and emerging data sources
• Key to success is the design and implementation of agreed working practices & challenge mechanism between the Insights and Intelligence team and customers (commercial teams). This should encompass a feedback loop, monitor actions vs recommendations and measure the benefit from recommendations at both an early stage (~2- 3 months) and on delivery of the proposed actions. This will encompass stakeholder feedback and be communicated appropriately
• Lead and drive the development and implementation of research data collection materials and methodology to maximize the strategic benefit from recommendations from the Insights and Intelligence team
• Ensure the Insights and Intelligence Team are key members and influencers within the relevant teams
• Elevate the Vodacom approach to competitor intelligence, identifying relevant information sources and providing insights to ensure Vodacom’s competitor strategy optimizes the market position
• Develop a tracking process to follow insights through to action, targeted performance impact and ultimate resulting impact so the effectiveness of the Insights function may be measured
• Geomarketing Key accountabilities and decision ownership :
• Manage new areas/ expansion rollout process from geo marketing survey, integration and performance monitoring
• Manage the GIS platform for Vodacom DRC integrating Retail Census, audit and data-mining information
• Conduct business performance analysis on site level, revenue geolocation and recommend the way forward
• Leverage on geo marketing for new business opportunities (eg. Commercial, M-Pesa, distribution points, tower sharebility…etc)
• Bridge the gap between entire commercial department and technical on network issues business impact

• Ad-hoc qualitative & quantitative analysis and surveys as per the business needs :
• Campaign pre/post-test,

Core competencies, knowledge and experience
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

• Relevant industry experience – ideally gained through a combination of senior market research/analytics and product marketing roles
• A successful history of diverse people management experience

Must have technical / professional qualifications :
• 5+ Years of proven analytical, data model, research & intelligence experience
• Proven knowledge of market research and Geomarketing software : MapInfo, SPSS and Data model in advance excel set ups
• Managerial experience in medium to large size organizations
• Proficiency with the MS Office suite including Microsoft word, excel, power point, project and vision
• Geospatial Software knowledge required
• Social analytics software require: SPSS
• University degree Statistics, Mathematical economics/ Business administration or related are, MBA is desired
• strong focus on delivering tangible bottom line results in demanding fast moving environment
• University degree or equivalent qualifications
• Outstanding commercial management skills, numerate, analytical
