Engineering Manager
Helios Towers is a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company, having established one of the most extensive tower portfolios across Africa. It builds, owns and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 8 markets in Africa Oman in the Middle East.
Overview
As Engineering Manager, your mission will be to lead the Engineering team in supporting Operations and project towards achieving their objectives efficiently. Ultimately ensure sites are optimized and OPCO achieve good power uptime through technical support and data performance analysis a pivotal role in shaping and embedding the HR program across the entire Helios Towers organization.
Role Responsibilities
As Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:
• Acting as the Engineering Authority within the OPCO and to be the SPOC (single point of contact) for technical related questions including site power design approvals as well as the standard of what Helios operationally acceptable practices from existing and on-going project related works.
• Leading the RMS and power specialist teams to maximize the efficiency and robustness of the network.
• Identifying opportunities for improvement and continually driving network performance (power up time, OPEX optimization and CAPEX efficiency).
• Works closely with the Group function team to ensure company compliance to industry technical standards.
• Taking the lead in developing and implementing company engineering policies, work instructions and procedures as necessary to achieve performance and targeted quality.
• Preparing and publishing technical bulletins specific to technology, solutions to problems and site best practices.
• Owning the OPCO RMS sites ensure connectivity, data accuracy and acceptance to all users.
• Driving the Regional Operations maintenance partners (MP) through MP technology managers to deliver the network quality performance standards.
• Approving project designs as fit for purpose and signs off that they have been completed within the technical specification as part of the Operational Acceptance process.
• Preparing and vetting all initiative business cases and advice OPCO management on opportunity.
Requirements for the Role
To succeed in the role, you will be/will have:
• An Engineering degree/diploma in eighter Electromechanics, Electricity, Electronics, Process
• At least 3 - 4 years in a supervisory role.
• 5-7 years of hands-on experience of AC & DC power solutions, Renewable Energy, including its diagnostics and resolution.
• An exposure to and understanding of internationally acceptable power practices.
• Able to demonstrate effective management of team and partners.
• Have a practical knowledge of AC & DC power solutions, Renewable Energy solutions (including Solar, Wind, Hybrid & battery cycling-solutions) as applicable to a telecom’s environment. Hands on diagnostic skills for power generation solutions up to about 60kVA
• Technical practices in small scale site power generation environments
• A good understanding of Health Safety and Environment best practices.
• An understanding of an End-2-End power solutions and all technical components + safety devices which make up the overall solution. Exposure to remote monitoring solutions (RMS)
• Deep-Sea control panels is highly desirable and overall understanding of OPEX costs efficiency.
• A Six Sigma Green belt or Black Belt certification.
