Is that a real parakeet? Actually…no! It’s a colored pencil drawing! This drawing has 77,000 likes on Twitter and over 5000 retweets. Check out more of Aria’s amazing and incredibly realistic drawings with us!
Aria is a 26 year old artist with 183,000 followers on Twitter who has nearly perfected their self-taught colored pencil drawing skills to make things look not only 3-D but incredibly life-like and realistic! And this is only 6 years into their self-taught journey!
They post their drawings on Twitter with the phrase “本物に見えたら嬉しい...!!!” which means “I’d be thrilled if you think it looks real.” And they definitely look real, so much that the videos often accompanying the posts where they roll colored pencils over the drawing are quite jarring. It’s like an optical illusion in a sense.
The subjects often drawn are various animals, drinks in plastic and glass bottles, potato chips and jewels.
Let’s take a look!
Animals
Aria has drawn various types of animals, from birds to mammals to even sea creatures! Here’s just some of them.
Parakeet
Let’s start off with the photo in the header.
This adorable bird actually exists in real life!! Can you tell the difference between the real one and the drawing?
Cat
Here’s a cute kitty!

It looks perched onto the piece of paper, ready to pounce off at any moment towards whatever it’s looking at!
Octopus
Ready for one that’s perhaps not as “cute” but shockingly realistic?
Original Tweet
The fact they were able to capture the shiny and wet aspect of an octopus makes it look like it’s right there on the table. Just incredible.
Writer's Pick
Drinks
Drinks in Japan often come in these plastic bottles (PET bottles) with plastic labels. Check out how even the labels look printed, as well as the detailing of the condensation on the bottles.
Mitsuya Cider
Original Tweet
Japan's equivalent of Sprite or 7-UP, this drawing makes it really seem like you can see across the clear bottle and soda to the other side!
Coca Cola
Look at those bubbles! Just like someone had just knocked the bottle over.
Coca Cola in a glass bottle
The glass bottle version is just as if not even more impressive!
Potato Chips
Original Tweet
In regards to this picture, the drawing was so realistic that the artist was even accused of printing out a photo! To prove that they really drew it, they provided this process.
They even drew this potato chip bag of a special collaboration between Calbee and the Sumida Hokusai Museum of Hokusai’s famous artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
The original drawing by Aria was even displayed at Sumida Hokusai Museum for a time.
Jewels
Here is just some of their jewel collection.

Let’s look a little more closely.

Even the process is incredible. The difference between the parts already colored in versus the sketch is just stunning.

Other Objects
Though many of Aria’s drawings fall under the above categories, the range of subjects extend beyond! Check out the following!
Nintendo Switch
Original Tweet
It feels like you can just reach and grab it off the table. A favorite detail is the protective plastic film coming off a little bit at the corner.
100 Yen Coin
Can you tell which one is the real coin?
Original Tweet
The answer is…the right one is the real one! The left is the drawing!
Did you guess correctly?
Nezuko Figurine
And for the Kimetsu no Yaiba fans out there, this one is a real treat.
Original Tweet
For those who collect figures especially, this level of recreation is incredible, especially Nezuko’s hair!
They drew one of Mitsuri too!!
