What is an adverb?

An adverb is a word that is used to complement or modify a noun, pronoun, verb or adverb itself to expand on a concept or as a modifier. When learning about adverbs, it is important to be able to break the sentence down into its individual words.

For example, “たくさん食べる (takusan taberu) - to eat a lot” is formed with “たくさん (takusan) - adverb meaning a lot” + “食べる (taberu) - ru-verb meaning to eat”. Or “とてもやすい (totemo yasui) - very cheap” is made up of “とても (totemo) - adverb meaning very” + “やすい (yasui) - i-adjective meaning cheap”
