Position Summary

CI Madagascar manages one Marine Protected Area in the north of Madagascar called Ambodivahibe. Many activities are implemented in the site mainly focused on the management plan and the safeguard plan of the Ambodivahibe Marine Protected Area. They are responsible for:
• Community’s social organization: most of the time in the field to organize and lead all activities related to the local organizations (involvement of the communities in conservation and marine resource management), develop and conduct need assessment on training and capacity building for the local structure to improve the management of the protected area, monitor and assess all development activities implemented in the fields by the communities.
• Communication and sensitization: develop a communication strategy, work closely with the regional media association (FMCR and AMA) and the main partners in the site, ensure promotion of the site and the brand of the organization at the regional and local level.
• Data collection and reporting: collect/update periodically data needed to improve the management of marine protected areas (monitoring of conservation targets), establish simple database useful to monitor progress, ensure the quality of results to deliver by the communities, write a periodic report and submit it.
• Workplanning and monitoring and evaluation: contribute to the establishment of quarterly, half-yearly, annual work plan for Antsiranana regional office; provide elements to feed the tools for monitoring and evaluation as a good matrix, METT, and scorecard.
• Organization of meetings and workshops at the regional and local level: support the team during the preparation of meetings and workshops held at the regional (DIANA) and local level (Ambodivahibe).

Responsibilities
• Conduct field activities including planning, managing, and reporting.
• Execute the social-organization activities under the supervision of the Regional marine Coordinator.
• Collect field data collect and monitor the functionality of the reserves.
• Conduct communication and training development activities.
• Support logistic of activities as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• This position is based in Antsirana, Madagascar.
• Sometimes they are based in the field 20km from the town, separated from family.
• Move from one village to another by bike and motorcycle every week (3 villages per week).

Required

QUALIFICATIONS
• Up to 2 years of work experience.

Preferred
• Bachelor in Natural Sciences
• Experience in social organization of the communities-based structures regarding rural development and natural resources management.
