There are 4 positions available.

KIND OF WORK:
Firefighting and fire prevention, emergency rescue (to include water rescue), and all other related emergency response as mandated by CFR 139.315-321.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF CLASS:
An employee in this class is primarily responsible for the extinguishment and containment of fires, and other related emergency situations occurring on the airport property.

Work involves considerable physical exertion and possible hazard to personal health and safety. (Class 3) Employees in this class are required to work on a rotation shift basis.

Employee is required to perform a variety of assignments related to maintaining the equipment and the ARFF building in cleaning condition. Provide security relative to the Airport Access Control Program when necessary and assist with ramp duty. Work is performed under the general supervision of the ARFF Chief who arranges duty assignment and who reviews work for effectiveness, efficiency, and conformity with standard procedures and specific instructions.

EXAMPLES OF WORK (These examples are not intended to include all possible assignments to employees in this class)

•Answer calls in preparing for emergency measures during airplane take-offs and landings. Either operate or accompany fire truck(s) or ambulance when responding to afire caused by airplane mishaps or other situations at the airport.
•Lay and connect hose lines and enters burning buildings with hose lines.
•Operate nozzles and play water, foam, or dry chemicals on fire as directed.
•Operate various types of hand fire extinguishers. Protect nearby buildings from danger or spreading fires, build firebreaks, and fireguards.
•Keep ramp and parking area clear of all hazards, obstructions, and other foreign objects.
•Operate rescue boat during drills and rescue operations as directed (CEKA only). Also assist maintenance crew in removing debris and other materials from runway, taxiway, and ramp area during floods or similar conditions.
•Respond and carry out directions during a declared emergency.

•Assist plane crews, passengers, and other persons by carrying or leading them to safety during emergency activities.
•Ensure that air operations area (AOA) is secure.
•Clean firefighter equipment.
•Clean and maintain premises. Maintain fire station in clean condition.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDG, SKILLS & ABILITIES

•Completion of the twelfth grade (high school diploma) or possess a recognized equivalency certificate (GED).
•Must possess a valid VI Driver’s License and clean traffic record.
•Ability to swim; Additionally, prior boat operation experience helpful.
•Must satisfactorily complete and pass all mandatory VIPA and federal pre-employment requirements.
•Ability to secure and maintain effective First Responder Certification (employer-provided)
•Must successfully complete a 1-year training period
•Must be a U.S. citizen or have resident alien status
•Have no criminal record
•Must be drug free
•Must be in excellent physical and mental condition
•Must be able to work rotating shifts (Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays
