Japan's CD shops are great! If you're in Tokyo, Shibuya has three of the biggest ones - Tower Records, Tsutaya and HMV. But you should be able to find any of them in a major city.

You could go to the CD shops if it's fairly recent. But if not, then ordering it online is an option. Your friend can also find it themselves if necessary. CDJapan ships overseas.
