Little Monsters Made from Glass, Hiromi Mori (HMglassworks) Adorable Creations

This adorable googly-eyed Furby-like creature is from Hiromi Mori’s “Little Monster” series. Using the glassblowing technique, she makes colourful glasses, vases, decorative ornaments in her original design to bring a pop of colour in our everyday lives. 

Introducing Glassblow Artist Hiromi Mori

Hiromi Mori (森比呂美) is who we have to thank for this adorable Little Monster glass creations. She has a long history of working with glass, graduating from Joshibi University of Art and Design with a major in glass course in 2011. After which, she began her career as a glass artisan in Hakone Craft House for 4 years before going freelance. In 2020, she held her first exhibition at Nihombashi Kiya Honten (日本橋木屋本店), and has since continued to hold annual exhibitions there. She is also involved in exhibitions at other galleries, events, and pop-up shops from time to time. 

She operates her business under the name “HMglassworks” (@ririmoririn07)

Based on the concept of “Colour Your Everyday Life (日常に彩りを)”.

Hiromi Mori makes many things including glass accessories, objects, bowls, cups, her pride and joy, the popping with colour “Little Monsters” series, and more.

I endeavour to make works like that. 

And true enough, many of Hiromi Mori’s are brightly coloured. And her Monsters series with their round beady eyes, looking at them I can’t help but smile and fawn over them. 

So Hot ! Over 1200°C Heat to Melt the Glass

Not going to lie, we don’t know anything about glassblowing. Luckily, Hiromi Mori-san gave us a quick lesson and photos on what goes on behind the scenes.

Just looking at these [photos], you can’t tell what is happening 😂

Monsters and radishes are born from melted glass at about 1200°C.
The part that glows orange in the furnace is where the glass melting, and we wind it up with a long stick 🔥

After that, spin spin spin to cool it down evenly.

And for the final touch, assembling the face.

Cute and Quirky Little Monster Series Is A Big Hit 

Hiromi Mori’s “Little Monster” Series is adorable. The series includes “Colourful Monsters”, “Flower Monsters”, “Glass Monsters”, and more. They come in many different colours and patterns, from solid colours to polka-dot or swirly patterns, transparent glass to opaque or semi-transparent, etc. There are also all sorts of monsters, some with horns, some look like birds or Furby, and some like food.

“Little Monsters Yadoku” Patterned Monsters

Inspired by the poison dart frog (矢毒蛙 yadoku kaeru), these Little Monsters have interesting patterns on them. 

“Little Monsters Akuma” and "Little Monsters Ushi" Have Horns and Tail

Akuma is "demon" in Japanese, and Ushi is "cow. They both have horns and tail, can you tell which is which?
