Water Park and Summer Pool Season in Japan

Summer is the season when outdoor water parks and pools are open for a limited time. This is because Japan is a country that has four distinct seasons, and only summer is warm enough for outdoor pool activities. There are indoor heated pools that are open all year round, but nothing beats the refreshing feeling of cooling down at an outdoor pool. Some people would even go as far to say, “It feels more natural.”

Water parks and summer pools in Japan are usually open from June to September, depending on the region and weather conditions. Basically from when the weather gets warm until it starts to get cold. Keep in mind that they are usually very busy during peak summer months July and August when students are on summer vacation, not to mention everybody wants to cool off for summer

You may be at the pool, but beware of heatstroke. Hydrate frequently, apply sunscreen, and monitor your health condition.

Other fun things to do during summer in Japan include fireworks festivals, summer festivals (natsumatsuri), kimodameshi test of courage, bon odori festival, and more. Here is a list-up of 7 must-attend summer events in Tokyo.
